Currently, the Projects & Engineering division, working with the major component refurbishment team (MCR), has an opportunity for a Section Manager, Safety Support Health Physics and Conventional Safety.
Our team comprises of the department manager construction safety, authorized health physicist, health physicists, radiation protection front line mangers and radiation protection technicians. You will have line manager responsibility for health physicists and conventional safety specialists.
The Section Manager, Safety Support position is a critical function and a key role within MCR. We are looking for an individual who is professionally qualified and experienced for the role, you will have a technical knowledge and understanding of health physics in nuclear projects ideally in reactor refurbishment, nuclear construction or decommissioning. You will be skilled at developing and implementing strategies and principals to ensure the safe execution of radiological work in a dynamic and often challenging environment. Ideally you will also have a strong understanding of conventional safety in a construction environment.
This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Department Manager Construction Safety in managing and supervising the work of Health Physics and Conventional Safety.
Liaison between various Departments for the safe execution of conventional support
Provide work direction and ensure adherence to regulations, giving direction and guidance to department staff, operating staff, construction staff and visitors
Implement and manage health physics and conventional safety programs
Work with management to address HP and other conventional safety issues
Oversee the staffing and resource management of full time and supplemental personnel
Provide support to the emergency response organization as required
Deputise for the department manager construction safety as required
Perform other duties as required
Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated capabilities in the following areas:
Requires a good knowledge of health physics
Requires a good knowledge/understanding of conventional safety
Requires knowledge in basic mechanics, electricity, instrumentation, and engineering to technically understand the operation of a nuclear power plant
Ability to establish excellent working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Excellent level of written, verbal and presentation skills
Ability to effectively communicate to senior management and external stakeholders
To be innovative and be able to develop new ideas to improve team performance and capability
Education and Experience
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of a four-year University degree in Engineering, Science, Health Physics or equivalent
A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in Conventional Safety is required
Experience in Health Physics is considered an asset
