Energizing Canada’s Nuclear Future.
Is AECL right for you?
As a federal Crown corporation, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) has a mandate to enable nuclear science and technology and manage the Government of Canada’s radioactive waste liabilities. Since 2015, AECL has been delivering its mandate through a Government-owned, Contractor-operated (GoCo) business model, whereby a private-sector organization, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), is responsible for managing and operating AECL’s sites on its behalf. AECL’s objectives under the GoCo model include accelerating Environmental Remediation Management, managing the Federal Nuclear Science and Technology Work Plan, and building a world-class nuclear laboratory that fulfils government priorities and grows commercial revenues.
Who this role is great for:
This role is a good fit if you:
· are energized by advancing nuclear technology, innovation, and commercialization in support of Canada’s long-term priorities;
· bring credible experience in the Canadian nuclear or science and technology landscape and can connect technical, strategic, policy, and commercial considerations;
· thrive in complex oversight environments where evidence, sound judgment, collaboration, and clear communication are essential; and
· enjoy building trusted relationships across government, industry, academia, laboratories, and the broader nuclear ecosystem.
What you will do:
In this role, you will help advance AECL’s nuclear technology and innovation priorities while supporting effective stewardship of Canada’s nuclear science and technology mission.
We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Nuclear Technology and Innovation who can bring together technical insight, strategy, oversight, stakeholder engagement, and program delivery to help ensure AECL and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) remain at the forefront of nuclear technological advancement and aligned with Government of Canada priorities.
Reporting to the Director, Technology, Innovation and Commercialization, you will oversee CNL activities related to the development and deployment of nuclear science and related technologies. You will provide strategic guidance and assess deployment strategies, including investment proposals and business cases for science and technology assets or other models, with a focus on strategic alignment and value for Canadians.
You will monitor and assess contractor performance and contract compliance within assigned oversight areas, contribute to performance planning and evaluation, analyze evidence, verify milestone completion, and provide clear input to performance and award fee determinations. You will also contribute to the Annual Program of Work and Budget and maintain regular performance dialogue with internal and external partners.
You will engage with federal departments and agencies, industry, academia, CNL, and other partners to advance a portfolio of technology stewardship and commercial activities. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of nuclear science, technology, innovation, commercialization, and public value.
What you bring:
We recognize that no candidate will meet every requirement. If your experience aligns with the core responsibilities of this role, we encourage you to apply.
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, or another related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in relevant roles.

· Experience working for or closely with government organizations.
· Experience in program management, delivery, oversight, and administration.
· Demonstrated ability to think strategically, provide credible advice, assess complex information, and support high-profile initiatives related to technology advancement.
· Strong ability to build relationships, foster collaboration, and communicate technical matters clearly and confidently to audiences at different levels of seniority.
· Experience gathering and interpreting national and international developments in technology, policy, and commercial sectors related to nuclear and related technologies would be considered an asset.
