Our Chalk River location is looking for a Casual Firefighter to respond to Structural Fires, Forest Fires, Hazardous Materials Incidents, High Angle and Confined Space Emergencies, Medical Responses, Auto Incidents and other such emergencies. .
What will you be doing!
- Participating in health and safety meetings.
- Driving and operating fire fighting vehicles and equipment.
- Responding to Structural Fires, Forest Fires, Hazardous Materials Incidents, High Angle and Confined Space Emergencies, Medical Responses, Auto Ex Incidents and other such emergencies.
- Assisting with updating and reviewing pre-incident plans.
- Reviewing all departmental policies, procedures and pre-incident plans regularly, as directed by Management.
- Participating in fire drills and demonstrations of fire fighting techniques.
- Participating in the training program to meet departmental regulations.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for :
- Education
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12)
- Post-secondary diploma in Firefighter Education or NFPA 1001 equivalent.
- Experience
- Must meet the NFPA 472 standard for Hazardous Materials Responder Technician Level.
- Must meet the NFPA 1006 standard for Rescue.
- Must meet the requirements of S-103 standard for Wildland Firefighters.
- Maintain certification in first aid/CPR/defibrillation /O2 therapy.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Maintain a valid “DZ” Ontario driver’s licence or equivalent.
- Meet the minimum departmental medical and physical requirements.
- Maintain the knowledge, skills to complete the normal daily duties of an industrial firefighter including but not limited to assisting with the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems.
- Successfully complete the firefighter training program.
- Effectively communicate using a 2-way portable radio.
- Utilize 3-way communication.
- Communicate effectively both written and orally.
- Represent the Fire Department in special events related to fire protection.
- Work a continuous rotating shift schedule that involves working nights, weekends, holidays, etc
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions :
- Work outdoors for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions under extremely physically demanding conditions. Physical demands include extended periods of standing and walking while wearing prescribed equipment (i.e. bunker gear, SCBA, station uniform).
- Participating in physical training activities in order to maintain required level of physical fitness.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, bending, and handling of materials.
- Take action to contain hazardous chemicals that might ignite, leak, spill, or release.
