What will you be doing!
- Ensuring the safe operation, use, and maintenance of the Facility on a day-to-day basis by established policies and procedures.
- Identifying and ensuring preventive and breakdown maintenance activities are assigned with minimal disruption to operations in the facility.
- Supporting development and implementation of training.
- Assisting in conducting interviews, goal setting, performance appraisals, career development, and disciplinary and promotion actions for WMA staff.
- Authorizing time sheets, and arranging and approving personnel work schedules, including personnel vacation and overtime.
- Completing and tracking routine facility surveillance and equipment tests.
- Issuing facility work control and maintenance requests as required.
- Conducting safety meetings and implementing actions.
- Updating, upgrading, and reviewing operational procedures.
- Assessing work requirements or work control authorization documents, assigning work to trained and qualified staff, and overseeing activities by all staff within the licensed nuclear facility, including staff outside their chain of command.
- Training and developing operating personnel and preparing operating manuals, procedures, and work plans.
- Supervising the operating technicians and supporting staff for operations and maintenance activities within the Facility.
- Promoting a good safety culture and managing good housekeeping standards.
- Supervising and delegating work to a team (up to 40) WMA technologists, Mechanical Service Attendants, Field Service Attendants, Hoisting Engineers, Millwrights, Radiological Protection staff, and others.
- Building and leading a highly motivated team by coaching, training, and mentoring.
- Ability to act as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC), managing the emergency response function within the facility.
- Completing required training as defined in the Conduct of Operations Procedure and Training Plan.
- Leading Plan-of-Day meetings with facility staff, ensuring pre-job briefs and post-job reviews for work in the facility are completed daily, and performing the duties of work control authorizer for the facility when required.
- Authorizing and scheduling all work within the WMA facility via work control documents to meet customer commitments and liaise with customers and suppliers.
- Identifying day-to-day maintenance issues, initiating work requests, and liaising with planning and maintenance personnel to address maintenance issues.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Relevant technical college/university diplomas and 3-5 years of Waste Management experience, or an equivalent combination of skills, training, and experience, with an emphasis on operations, will be an asset.
- Experience
- This position requires extensive experience in the operation and routines of Waste Operations or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in managing completed projects.
- Relevant experience in an operating nuclear facility would be an asset.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to disseminate information to other team members and clients, and strong team problem-solving skills are essential.
- Ability to review and interpret data for receipt of waste items into the facility as per waste acceptance criteria.
- Ability to perform various duties, changing tasks without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Work in a team environment, maintain a clear focus on team goals and establish a good rapport with groups and individuals from diverse professions.
- Demonstrated initiative to resolve problems and expedite resources, work plans, or other appropriate actions.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to delegate effectively.
- Ability to work smoothly and effectively with customers, technical staff, colleagues, and management.
- Strong organizational and work planning.
- Capable of planning multiple tasks effectively, including work prioritization and delegating authority to subordinates.
- Willing to take supervisory, technical, and other training courses to increase skills.
- Knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and standard CNL software, is required.
- Industrial and radiological knowledge to implement safety across Low-Level Waste Operations.
- Strong knowledge of the operations of a nuclear facility and waste management.
- Working knowledge of the hazards associated with handling radioactive materials. Demonstrated knowledge of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles including hazardous work assessments and radiological work planning within a nuclear operating environment.
- Mechanical aptitude and a sound working knowledge of mechanical systems, hand tools, cranes, telehandlers, lift trucks, process systems, and basic instrumentation would be an asset.
- Familiarity with radioactive waste management principles would be an asset.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Offsite travel to other CNL facilities and or service providers may occasionally be required.
- 4-day work week, consisting of 10-hour work shifts.
