We have an exciting opportunity as a Continuous Improvement & Lean Specialist for our Cambridge, Ontario location (on-site position).
JOB SUMMARY
As Lean Manufacturing Manager at BWXT Canada Ltd., you will be at the forefront of implementing and driving Lean methodologies within our manufacturing facilities. Your role will focus on implementing and leading Lean projects, optimizing production processes, reducing waste, and enhancing efficiency to achieve business objectives. The Lean Manufacturing Manager collaborates with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, develop and execute lean initiatives, create, and monitor the required key performance indicators to ensure sustainable results. With a strong emphasis on process optimization, leadership, and collaboration, this role is instrumental in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and driving operational excellence throughout the organization.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Organize and Facilitate Kaizen Events:
- Identify and prioritize improvement opportunities with management.
- Plan, lead, and facilitate Kaizen events, ensuring proper preparation.
- Monitor and follow up on past Kaizen event outcomes.
Drive Production Efficiency Projects:
- Conduct process and material flow analysis to optimize production.
- Use Value Stream Mapping to identify inefficiencies.
- Analyze lead time, throughput, and bottlenecks to implement improvements.
Implement and Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Roll out and standardize KPIs like OEE/OLE across operations.
- Monitor trends, recommend actions, and engage teams in improvement efforts.
- Use statistical and business process analysis to support change initiatives.
Foster a Lean Culture:
- Develop and communicate Lean vision, strategies, and policies.
- Provide professional Lean expertise and guidance to the organization.
- Train and coach employees and leaders on Lean methodologies.
Documentation and Best Practices:
- Define, develop, and publish business improvement processes reflecting industry best practices.
- Ensure accessibility and alignment of Lean documentation with operational goals.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or mechanical Engineering, complemented with 10 years of experience in the manufacturing sector.
- Lean Manufacturing/Engineering certificate and a Six Sigma Black Belt certification is preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and operations within the nuclear industry, including knowledge of machinery, equipment, and production techniques.
- Proven experience in implementing Lean methodologies and process improvement programs within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in fostering a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation, creativity, and employee involvement in problem-solving and decision-making processes.
- Strong understanding of key performance indicators and their significance in driving continuous improvement.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively train and coach team members.
- Experience collaborating with cross functional teams, including production, engineering, quality assurance, suppliers, and customers to promote a Lean culture.
The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $82,000 and $124,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
