AtkinsRéalis is supporting a nuclear new build small modular reactor (SMR), the first of its kind built in the western hemisphere, and due to be on the grid by the end of this decade. We are looking for individuals with a strong technical understanding to support ongoing construction activities.
The Technical Field Specialist support the Construction department and are responsible for reviewing the Construction & Installation Work Packages (CWP/IWP), processing field change requests through the Engineering department, and aiding the Construction organization to resolve any uncertainty with regards to design documents. This role may be known as Field Engineering, Field Technologist, or Series Leads in other projects.
This is a permanent position who will functionally report internally to a Project Manager, New Build, and have an execution manager from the Project. This role would require extensive time in an Industrial green field construction site environment, in either of the following disciplines: Civil, Mechanical, Piping, Structural, Electrical or Instrumentation.

Your role within the team:
Primary point of contact for any site design related issues (First line of defense).
Provide guidance to resolve engineering and construction issues, as procedurally approved, by identifying and addressing technical challenges that may arise during construction and coordinate resolution of design changes that are required to be processed by Design Engineering.
Process Field Changes, including determining if Advanced Authorization process can be utilized.
Liaison with project coordinators during the creation of Construction Work Packages (CWPs), Installation Work Packages (IWPs), and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
Provide technical oversight into the implementation of the above documents in the field.
Collaborate with various stakeholders, including project management, contractors, regulatory agencies, to ensure smooth project execution.
Identify and mitigate risks associate with construction activities, including safety risks, project delays or technical challenges.
Seek opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency enhancements in construction operations.

The ideal candidate:
10+ years relevant field experience.
Diploma in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology or equivalent experience is an asset.
Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints and specifications.
Adherence to strict safety and security protocols, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
Basic understanding of nuclear and engineering principles, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements, including staying current on changing regulations is an asset.
Knowledge of Non-Destructive Examination and CGSB standards is an asset
Knowledge of ASME/CSA welding standards and practices is an asset.
An appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
The employee will be required to obtain security clearance for CANDU Energy Inc. facilities and our customer sites. This activity typically requires extended time for someone who is not a citizen of Canada, so Canadian citizenship is an advantage.

Work Locations:
Primary work location will be in either the Pickering, ON office or at the Project office in Oshawa, ON
Alternative work locations in both the field and office. Including: Mississauga, ON; Clarington, ON.
Visits or deployment to the Darlington Construction Site will be required.
