The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), and crystal plasticity finite element (CPFE) modeling, with a focus on zirconium alloys and hydride embrittlement. This role involves conducting in-situ nano-indentation experiments, analyzing mechanical responses, and contributing to advancements in nuclear materials performance and reliability. All new grads will be part of our New Grad Development Program for 02 years.
The available positions can be based out of our offices in Mississauga, Kincardine, Courtice and Port Elgin, Ontario.
Your role within the team:
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Work in one of the areas of:
- Nuclear Steam Plant.
- Balance of Plant.
- Retube, Inspection and Maintenance.
- Feeder/piping fitness for service.
- Fuel channel fitness for service.
- Reactor Core Physics.
- Instrumentation and Controls.
- Project Sites.
- Assignments normally performed under close supervision of an engineer in an upper grade, are of low complexity and are frequently designed to develop work knowledge and capabilities in a field of engineering and standard Company practices.
- There is no requirement to supervise others, although checking of work of support staff may be required occasionally.
- Demonstrate competence in the conventional aspects of at least one engineering field or discipline.
- Conduct in-situ nano-indentation experiments using SEM and EBSD on zirconium alloys and hydrides.
- Perform CPFE modeling to analyze mechanical responses of HCP metals, FCC, and BCC second phases.
- Quantify local mechanical responses of zirconium and hydrides using advanced microscopy techniques.
- Prepare samples through polishing, electroplating, and hydriding processes.

The ideal candidate:
- You are working towards completion of a relevant Honors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Nuclear Engineering from a university of recognized standing with an expected graduation date prior to June 2024.
- Post-graduate degree(s) will also be considered.
- Statistical knowledge is beneficial.
- Ability to understand and consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
- Effective problem solver with a results-oriented approach and ability.
- Strong planning and organization skills, as applied to self-managing multiple, simultaneous work assignments.
- Ability to network, build relationships, and plan, with an orientation toward service, teamwork and collaboration.
- Must have superior technical written skills and the ability to effectively interface with staff, project management and customers.
