McArthur River, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s largest high-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at McArthur River is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. The Role
Cameco is looking for a safety professional with a strong safety background and a passion for building relationships and leading by example to reduce and eliminate safety risks. Working with the health and safety team, you will be responsible for supporting the workplace health and safety programs through education and leadership.
This role is intended to bolster the in-field presence of the health and safety team, to help provide positive reinforcement to further increase compliance to our safety programs.
This is an 18-month temporary position.
In this role, you will:
- Complete in-field work task observations and provide coaching and reinforcement on safety performance
- Assist front line supervisors with safety related activities in the field, including initial incident investigations
- Lead safety assessments and audits and provide improvement feedback to site personnel
- Ensure site compliance with regulatory requirements with regards to the occupational health and safety program, fire protection program, and emergency preparedness and response program
- Support the implementation and monitor the progress of safety improvements initiatives
- Develop and promote good working relationships with other groups and departments
Required:
- Post secondary degree in a field related to safety or a diploma in occupational health and safety, or relevant technology
- Five to eight years of relevant work experience in the mining industry with underground mining knowledge
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
- First aid certificate
- Knowledgeable in Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Mines Regulations
- Valid class 5 driver’s license
- Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft
Recommended:
- Canadian registered safety professional (CRSP) or equivalent designation
- Mine rescue certified
- ICS 100/200 training
