We are currently seeking Reactor Component Testing Engineers, to support our ongoing and upcoming CANDU6 International Retube projects. This role is based out of the Candu Energy Inc. home office in Mississauga, Ontario.
Your role within the team:
- This position requires an individual who is self-motivated and capable of working independently or under the instruction from a senior technical engineer and develop his/her career and experience in the nuclear field.
- The candidate shall be able to follow the instruction from a lead professional engineer to complete the assigned mechanical related scopes or tasks and develop necessary engineering design documentation as required.
- The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Join team to complete the qualification testing CANDU reactor components and systems, including Calandria Tubes and Fuel Channel assemblies.
- Work with reactor component design engineers to understand the verification testing requirements, and prepare the associated formal Test Plans and Test Reports, suitable for review of the client and their regulatory authorities
- Integrate and coordinate the work between the various stakeholders of reactor component design, tooling design, tooling fabrication, and testing organizations.
- Oversee testing, monitoring progress, and providing regular status reports to their team lead and management. Facilitate the movement of test specimens from procurement to tooling to testing. Flag any issues as soon as they arise.
- Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters.
- Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within the given budget and schedule, and in good quality.

The ideal candidate:
- A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from a university of recognized standing.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 Years of related work experience in mechanical engineering within a heavy industrial environment such as: nuclear, mining, oil & gas, power, etc.
- Must have knowledge of mechanical systems or equipment (knowledge of CANDU design, including the Calandria Vessel and fuel channels would be preferred).
- Must have experience in design/qualification testing of mechanical components, including the preparation of Test Plans and/or Test Reports.
- Previous design/testing experience with CANDU retube tooling systems is an asset.
- Working knowledge of CSA N285, N286 and N299, ASME BPVC Section III, and any other applicable standards related to design and testing of reactor components, and/or systems is preferred.
- Design engineering experience in vessels and/or equipment for nuclear power plants is preferable.
- Previous experience in the procurement and expediting of test materials and testing services is an asset
- Must be able to apply technical principles in a logical and practical manner to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
- Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills, demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset.
- Must be willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), although this will not be a regular requirement as part of the job.
