The Role
Cameco is looking for a safety professional with a strong safety background and a passion for building relationships and leading by example to reduce and eliminate safety risks. Working with the health and safety team, you will be responsible for supporting the workplace health and safety programs through education and leadership.
This is a temporary six-month position.
In this role, you will:
- Ensure site compliance to regulatory requirements with regards to the Fire Protection Program, Emergency Preparedness and Response Program and the Occupational Health and Safety Program.
- Conduct and direct work to meet requirements as outlined in Cameco’s safety standards.
- Lead the planning and delivery of mine rescue training and emergency response training.
- Assess the Safety Program and implement improvements.
- Function within the incident command system in times of crisis.
- Maintain safety equipment, fire hall, response trailers, and mine rescue stations.
- Facilitate inspections, internal audits and incident investigations.
- Develop and promote good working relationships with other groups and departments. Participate in safety system field assessments and provide improvement feedback to site personnel.
Required:
- Post secondary degree in a field related to safety or a diploma in occupational health and safety, or relevant technology;
- Five to eight years of relevant work experience in the mining industry with underground mining knowledge;
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered;
- Mine rescue certified;
- Underground mine rescue instructor certified;
- Advanced first aid certificate;
- Fire protection engineering or experience with fire protection systems;
- Knowledgeable in Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Mines Regulations;
- Supervisor experience;
- Valid class 5 driver’s license; and
- Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
Recommended:
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent designation;
- Qualified emergency response instructor (NRPA, IFSTA);
- Certified Bio-marine 240R Bench Technician; and
- ICS 100/200.
