The Position:
The Software Department at MDA Space is currently seeking an AI Software Engineer/MTS (Member of Technical staff) at the intermediate level for our Corporate Shared Services GenAI Apps team at our Brampton office. As an AI software developer, you will be instrumental in using your skill and experience to design, build, deploy and maintain custom, on-premise generative AI models and systems.
With 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success in making space dreams come true.
Key Responsibilities:
As part of a team:
• Deploy on‑premise generative AI models and systems, including necessary web-based and desktop user interfaces
• Build, deploy, maintain, and continuously improve Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
• Build and maintain data connectors, APIs, and integration layers for internal systems and knowledge bases
• Develop AI workflows and AI agents using platforms such as LangChain, OpenAI Agents SDK, n8n, Cohere North, and M365 Copilot Studio
• Apply software engineering best practices to ensure production AI systems are user-friendly, modular, robust, well-documented, and maintainable
• Apply security best practices and ensure all solutions comply with corporate cybersecurity and AI governance policies
• Conduct testing, monitoring, and performance tuning
• Document code, workflows, and compliance checks
• Collaborate with internal customers such as engineering and corporate shared services to identify high-impact use-cases, and design and build GenAI systems to address them
Required Skills/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
• 2+ years of related work experience
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch and Hugging Face
• Good understanding of LLMs and VLMs, vector stores, agentic AI, and RAG concepts
• Experience with RESTful APIs, Docker/Kubernetes, and version control (Git)
• Awareness of security standards (e.g., OWASP, ISO 27001) and responsible AI guidelines
• Experience with one or more Object oriented languages such as C++, C#
Beneficial Skills/Experience:
• Hands‑on project experience with LangChain, Llama‑Index, OpenAI Agents SDK, n8n, or similar agent frameworks
• Experience working with AI software development tools, e.g., ClaudeCode, Github Copilot, Cursor, Codex
• Full-stack development experience
• Exposure to on‑premise deployment tools (e.g., vLLM)
• Basic knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and model auditability

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
