Summary Description:
The Enterprise Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is a senior subject‑matter expert who partners with regional Business Areas (BAs) to embed MDA Space Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) policies, drive environmental, health & safety performance—including greenhouse‑gas (GHG) emission management—and support continuous‑improvement across all sites. While the Business Areas (BAs) own day-to-day safety, this role ensures those operations aggregate into a cohesive, compliant, and sustainable enterprise-wide program. It is a position of central governance designed to eliminate silos and standardize risk management across different geographic and operational units. The role influences BA EHS teams without direct line‑management authority, providing strategic guidance, an independent perspective, and best‑practice recommendations while measuring performance against corporate standards. The Manager also leads enterprise‑wide EHS projects, coordinating internal and external resources that do not report to the position. This position can be based out of our Brampton or Montreal location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic EHS SME and Regulatory Governance – Act as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) on global EHS regulations and MDA Space policies; advise BA safety managers, environmental specialists, and other EHS professionals on MDA Space global standards
- Business Partnering & change management – Build trusted relationships with BA leaders, translate EHS requirements into operational solutions. Facilitate global alignment by championing prevention-safety culture through data driven risk assessments and clear communication of corporate standards.
- Predictive Performance Measurement – Track and report safety, environmental, and greenhouse‑gas (GHG) metrics across MDA Space. Leverage leading and lagging metric dashboards to identify risks and trends, summarize actionable insights, and ensure data integrity in the global EHS database.
- Environmental & GHG Management – Lead waste reduction, water stewardship, air quality, and GHG inventory processes across MDA Space. Ensure environmental compliance and emission reduction initiatives are integrated with BA operational planning cycles.
- Project & Enterprise-Wide Initiative Leadership – Own enterprise level EHS projects, execute cross functional projects with teams’ support. Deliver projects on time, within quality expectations, and provide regular status updates to Director of EHS.
- Continuous Improvement (Lean/Kaizen) – Apply Lean principles and Kaizen events where appropriate to reduce safety and ergonomic risks in assembly and improve environmental processes across MDA Space. Identify process improvements that drive operational efficiency and cost savings at global level.
- Training & Learning – Design, deliver, and evaluate Enterprise level EHS trainings and workshops; facilitate learning model development with internal learning teams to build EHS competency across the organization.
- Audit & Assurance – Conduct audits of record keeping, workplace organization, and environmental controls; recommend corrective actions (implementation remains the BA’s responsibility).
Required Work Experience and Skills:
- 5 -7 years progressive experience in safety and/or environmental programs in aero-space or high tech manufacturing (e.g. production, clean rooms, assembly service operations, etc.). Must have deep industry specific knowledge in assembly, LOTO (Lockout Tagout), Confined Space, Work at Height, etc.
- Proven track record of collaborating with senior leaders and global stakeholders. Capable of translating EHS data into business KPIs to drive management decision making.
- Working experience with EHS Management Systems such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental stewardship and GHG accounting/reporting, such as working experience with Carbon Disclosure Project.
- Preferred experience with Lean, Kaizen, or Six Sigma methodologies to optimize safety workflows and waste reduction efforts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable engaging Directors, VPs, and global stakeholders at a strategic and tactical level.
- Ability to travel up to 50% and support flexible shifts (including nights/weekends) to align with business production schedules.
- Influence: capable of mentoring and coaching EHS professionals without direct line management authority.
Education and license Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Engineering (mechanical, chemical, industrial, or related), or a comparable discipline.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Management, Safety Engineering, Sustainability) – preferred.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation – preferred; equivalent international certifications acceptable.
- French is an asset
