We are looking for a New Graduate Engineer for our Peterborough, Ontario site. This is a unique role for a new graduate to join the BWXT NEC engineering team into a 3-year rotational program that would expose the successful candidate to multiple roles in our Peterborough location. This rotation program would include 3-4 (approx. 12 months each) engineering assignments including roles in Software Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Systems Engineering, Project Management, Quality or Manufacturing Engineering. These assignments would depend on the candidate’s skillset, desire, and company business demands.
BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

Job Responsibilities Once in Final Role:
- Design and develop modifications to existing assembly language-based control systems.
- Work with customers and colleagues across engineering disciplines to define project scope and requirements.
- Test modifications to these systems, using PC-based emulators and automated test tools.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to troubleshoot customer issues, and propose, test and implement solutions.
- Follow SQA programs, processes and procedures in accordance with current Canadian nuclear industry standards.
- Architecting and designing new control system software, and extending existing systems to accommodate new functionality.
- Coordinating with other engineering disciplines to produce consistent, integrated designs with well-defined interfaces.
- Analyzing, developing and writing Software Requirements Specifications for new and re-engineered control systems.
- Writing other design, installation and maintenance documents.
- Execution of design/analysis/test/commissioning of complex equipment and systems.
- Liaise with customer design, operations, and maintenance personnel to gather site-specific design information. Execute walk-downs of various equipment in the plant.
- Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable company, technical, and regulatory standards.
- Support the development and estimating of engineering proposals.
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
- New graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in either Electrical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation and Control, Computer, or Software Engineering discipline (or equivalent) with exemplary academic achievement.
- Co-op or internship experience.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Competence in design and design processes.
- Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Flexibility to work remotely on short-term customer site assignment.
