Manufacturing Engineer Lead - Field Services
We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer Lead - Field Services in Brampton, Ontario. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes. JOB SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Engineer Lead - Field Services is responsible for the supervision and technical leadership of a field service team in the maintenance and overhaul of customer-owned reactor inspection equipment at a radiologically licensed maintenance facility in Brampton, Ontario. This team of highly skilled mechanical and electrical technicians executes complex troubleshooting, disassembly, maintenance, reassembly and testing of automated equipment and tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and attend daily pre-job briefings to ensure alignment of the site team to all technical and safety-related aspects of the work plan.
- Write detailed instructions (travelers) for the technical team to execute based on customersupplied maintenance procedures, design documents, and inputs from troubleshooting activities.
- Supervise skilled mechanical, electrical and inspection resources in the hands-on execution of the planned work in a radiologically controlled environment. Work scope typically includes decontamination, disassembly, incorporation of modifications and design changes, maintenance, re-assembly, testing, packaging, and shipment back to customer sites.
- Lead and provide technical support to problem-solving and trouble-shooting activities by coordinating teams of BWXT and customer representatives including technical, quality, project management and engineering stakeholders.
- Coordinate the procurement of tooling and complex replacement parts required to support maintenance activities. Ensure the execution has all required tools, parts and equipment to complete the scope of work.
- Provide detailed cost estimates for field service activities, custom manufactured parts and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University graduate in an Engineering discipline.
- 5+ years experience in custom manufacturing.
- Knowledge and experience with machining, fitting/welding, assembly and materials including stainless steels, Al-bronze, nickel alloys, zirconium, etc.
- Knowledge and experience with metrology, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (GD&T), blueprint reading.
- High level of proficiency with data analysis and management including spreadsheet tools, MRP systems, etc.
- Demonstrated ability in project planning / execution, including development of processes / procedures and process improvements.
- Very strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Desired Characteristics:
- Basic knowledge of common non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques.
- Experience working with ASME Code rules for identification and traceability of materials, manufacturing processes, testing, etc.
- Experience supervising technical teams performing complex assembly/testing work.
- Experience with manufacturing of instrumentation and control equipment, PLC systems, cable assemblies, panels, industrial automation. Familiar with wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, instrument calibration.
- Technical writing experience including procedures, customer proposals, technical reports.
- Experience in cost-estimating multi-disciplined equipment and facility projects.
- Experience in the nuclear industry is considered an asset but not required.
The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $74,000 and $111,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
