We have an opportunity for an Accounting Manager based out of our Cambridge, Ontario location but flexibility of working location may be considered. Hybrid option available.
Job Purpose
This role is accountable for overseeing general accounting activities within the BWXT Medical Business Unit. Responsibilities include managing financial transaction processing, executing month-end close activities, preparing financial statements, conducting financial analysis, and performing research (accouting guidance (GAAP) and how it relates to the BWXT Medical business). Additionally, this role will assist in other financial activities such as budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, financial planning support, and preparing various financial reports. The incumbent will ensure adherence to U.S. generally accepted accounting principles and the Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”) internal control framework.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, BWXT Medical, and providing support to the Commercial Operations and Corporate Finance groups, this role actively engages and communicates with various internal departments and is responsible for a team of two Financial Analysts.
Accountabilities
- Lead monthly, quarterly and yearly close activities including preparing, posting and reviewing journal entries, financial report preparation and other close activities.
- Conduct thorough financial statement review and analysis including performance analysis of major cost drivers, foreign exchange analysis and exposure, and other routine and ad-hoc transactions.
- Execute monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Perform cost accounting, project accounting, and fixed asset accounting and reporting.
- Responsible for inventory control including closing WIP jobs, checking inventory balances and updating product costing as necessary.
- Support the FP&A teams in preparing the annual business plans and quarterly forecasts.
- Provide finance support for BWXT Medical, including revenue recognition and analysis, product cost analysis, cost center and project spending analysis.
- Provide input to cash flow projections.
- Establish and uphold effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with SOX.
- Act as an ERP financial super user, including (but not limited to) creating/modify GL accounts, profit and cost centers and project codes.
- Provide leadership to the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvements for accounting and reporting processes.
- Collaborate with external auditors as required.
- Handle Statistics Canada and U.S. Census reporting and other external reporting as required.
- Support Head of Finance, Commercial Operations and Corporate Finance teams and other leadership team members with reporting requests and other ad hoc requests.
Knowledge and Experience
- Preferably holds a CPA Professional Accounting Designation; or is currently pursuing the designation.
- Possesses at least 5 years of hands-on experience in an Accountant role.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle with practical experience with modules related to inventory management, production planning and cost accounting.
- Demonstrates advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
- Previous experience in the manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
- Experience managing inventory, including knowledge of inventory valuation methods (FIFO, LIFO) and inventory control techniques to optimize efficiency and minimize cost.
- Exhibits strong interpersonal skills for fostering relationships with senior executives, internal/external customers, suppliers, contractors, and team members.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, within a team environment.
- Possesses strong organizational and analytical abilities.
- Exhibits a high level of integrity, initiative, and the capability to navigate ambiguity effectively.
- Travel to the BWXT Medical sites (either Kanata, ON or Vancouver, B.C.) will be required approximately once per quarter and on an as-needed basis.

The base salary range for this position in [[Ontario]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[86,000]] and $[[132,000]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
