The University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (UNENE) is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to support the development of professional development courses for engineers transitioning into Canada's nuclear industry.
This project will create foundational learning pathways that prepare Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers with the knowledge required to work in nuclear facilities, including existing CANDU reactors, refurbishment projects, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), decommissioning, waste management, and uranium mining.
About the Role
As the Civil Engineering Subject Matter Expert, you will collaborate with instructional designers and fellow nuclear experts to develop the Civil Engineering discipline modules across three foundational course domains:
- Nuclear Regulations
- Nuclear Physics
- Nuclear Safety
Each domain includes a common core delivered to all engineering disciplines, followed by discipline-specific learning modules that demonstrate how nuclear concepts apply to civil engineering practice. The program is designed around blended learning and competency-based education for engineers entering the nuclear sector.
We're Looking For
We welcome applicants with experience in one of the three domains listed above. However, the ideal candidate will have practical experience that spans multiple domains, enabling them to contribute across the broader curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Develop technical content for Civil Engineering learning modules.
- Review instructional materials for technical accuracy.
- Provide real-world industry examples, case studies, and best practices.
- Work collaboratively with instructional designers to translate complex technical concepts into engaging learning experiences.
- Participate in content reviews and incorporate stakeholder feedback.
- Ensure content reflects current Canadian nuclear industry practices and regulatory expectations.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or equivalent engineering designation.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience within the Canadian nuclear industry or on nuclear-related projects.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to engineers who are new to the nuclear sector.
