What will you be doing?
- Assisting the RP Supervisor and the Manager of Compliance & Radiation Protection to implement the RP Programs.
- Conducting radiological safety assessments, compliance surveys, and workplace inspections.
- Advising staff on RP requirements in their respective work areas.
- Ensuring that the WL site is compliant with the requirements of the RP Programs.
- Providing radiation protection services including radiological clearance surveys, characterization surveys, decommissioning surveys with radiological work assessments.
- Assisting in decommissioning activities by providing radiation protection advice and guidance for radiological protective clothing and equipment, setting up zoning, monitoring radiation doses and contamination levels, packaging waste, and surveying waste.
- Assisting trades and operations and projects staff as a Radiation Protection Subject Mater Expert.
- Working in a team with all levels of RP staff to provide radiation protection services throughout the WL site.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Secondary School Graduation or its equivalent
- Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years' pertinent experience or its equivalent in a combination of experience, additional education and/or training.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of scientific, mathematical principles and laboratory techniques is needed.
- Must possess a high sense of individual responsibility.
- Must be willing to undertake and successfully complete formal and on-the-job training to satisfy the requirements for duty as a Radiation Safety Surveyor.
- Must obtain a working knowledge of legislative, regulatory and CNL company principles associated with RP.
- Effective written and communication skills.
- Should be a mature, well-organized self-starter who enjoys working with a team in an operational and decommissioning environment.
- Background in the nuclear industry beneficial.
- Group one RP Surveyor designation an asset but will be provided.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Must possess good mobility and have the physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work, which involves climbing, bending and lifting.
- The successful candidate must be willing to work in an operational and decommissioning environment (i.e. laboratories, workshops, confined spaces, construction, and demolition areas).
- We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am.
