What will you be doing!
- Clearing snow; spreading sand on icy roads, walkways and entrances.
- Performing general site maintenance and grounds-keeping duties as directed, including operation of powered equipment both hand-held and ride on.
- Operating diamond drilling equipment, including use on scaffolds or other difficult locations.
- Providing trades assistance/support on work projects.
- Providing support for digging, excavating, and shoring.
- Loading and unloading vehicles.
- Carrying out disposal duties and picking up waste – active and inactive.
- Clearing brush, ditches, and fire breaks.
- Carrying out road repair functions (potholes, crack sealing) as needed.
- Erecting fencing and barricades.
- Tracking grounds maintenance materials, waste disposal logs, and recycling.
- Moving furniture, construction materials and other heavy items.
- Carrying out landscaping functions.
- Observing all plant regulations especially safety, health and radiation hazard control regulations.
- Performing pre and post trip checks on equipment used each time and fill out required vehicle/equipment logbooks.
- Reporting deficiencies to supervision as noted.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 or higher driver’s license.
- Experience
- Experience would be an asset but not required.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be punctual, dependable and safety-minded.
- Detail-oriented and can meet deadlines.
- Exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize and time management are required.
- The ability to operate other small heavy equipment is an asset.
- Basic record-keeping skills.
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
- Customer focused and able to work independently as well as work well with others part of a team with co-workers and project leads from other departments.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond with initiative.
- Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one’s work.
- Ability to demonstrate sound work ethics.
- Knowledge of WHMIS training.
- Knowledge in Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
- Knowledge of methods, equipment, and materials used in general maintenance and grounds work, including chemical application.
- Knowledge of Work Permits, Job Safety Analysis, Pre-job Briefs, Integrated Work Control and Stop Work Procedures.
- Computer skills an asset, especially knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), and Oracle.
- First Aid and/or CPR would be an asset.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Performing heavy manual labour for extended periods, often under adverse climate conditions.
- Must be physically capable of lifting, pulling, and managing heavy equipment and objects in all weather conditions, prepared for both extreme hot and cold conditions.
- Ability to wear and work in a respirator and other protective equipment as required.
- Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures ranging from +30°C to -40°C.
- We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am.
