McArthur River, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s largest high-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at McArthur River is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. The Role
Cameco is looking for a well-rounded and motivated individual to join our mine engineering team with strong experience in drafting and design of underground development and construction layouts. Reporting to the senior mine engineer, you will carry out a variety of mine technician duties, both in the field (underground and on surface) and in the office, in a safe and efficient manner. You will be able to work independently, to communicate effectively with coworkers to plan work, and to liaise with other technical, maintenance, mine operations, process and site services staff.
In this role, you will:
- Be primarily responsible for creating underground development and construction layouts and other mine drawings under direction of the design engineer.
- Ensure drawing standards are consistently applied and organized with proper filing with associated documents.
- Be responsible in keeping lateral and vertical mine development and production data up-to-date including Asbuilt layouts from survey (including CMS data), design layers from others (long-range planning, geology) and center lines and triangulations.
- Provide backup survey coverage as required.
- Create monthly and annual updates of level prints as required and level prints for the rolling 3-month plan, budget development prints and regulatory prints. Perform underground inspections and progress reporting, as well as assist in updating production related drawings and schematics.
Required:
- Technical diploma in mining or related field
- Five or more years of technical and drafting experience in an underground mining environment
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
- Highly proficient in MS Office and 3D design software (Deswik / AutoCAD/Vulcan), Good 3D visualization skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to build and maintain a good communication network with all stakeholders
- Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft
Recommended:
- Experience in surveying, scheduling, mine design, geotechnical monitoring, and ventilation
- Familiarity with long hold drill and blast mining
- Familiarity with diamond drilling and raisebore drilling, underground construction
- Surface civil experience

The McArthur River operation is located in northern Saskatchewan and operates on a two week on/two week off rotational schedule. Employees commute to the site by aircraft from designated locations in Saskatchewan.
