The Role
As a member of the technical services team, you will provide analytical and process chemistry expertise to Cameco’s operations, projects, and corporate departments. You will assist various stakeholders by utilizing your experience in analytical laboratory operations, radiation and uranium toxicology, and knowledge of the mining industry. You will conduct quality assurance audits for Cameco’s operations and joint venture partners and oversee related safety programs.
In this role, you will:
- Provide assistance and support to Cameco site laboratories in standardizing and improving analytical methods and quality control processes.
- Conduct annual quality assurance audits of Cameco analytical labs in alignment with ISO/IEC 17025.
- Coordinate annual inter-laboratory comparison programs on uranium and radium measurements.
- Travel to various Cameco operations multiple times per year (six to eight trips).
- Manage Cameco safety data sheet program to ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations. Provide specialist subject matter expertise on chemistry related processes to various departments within Cameco.
Required:
- A master's degree or a higher qualification in chemistry or chemical engineering with a specialization in analytical chemistry
- A minimum of eight years of applicable work experience in an analytical laboratory
- Experience conducting ISO/IEC 17025 compliance audits
- Ability to travel to various Cameco locations multiple times per year
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
- Understanding of mineral and inorganic analysis methods
Recommended:
- Training and certification in conducting ISO/IEC 17025 compliance audits
- An in depth understanding of analytical laboratory quality control fundamentals
- Knowledge and experience in statistical procedures and associated software related to laboratory data analysis and quality control
- Familiarity with performance testing programs and laboratory accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025
- Uranium mining or processing experience
- Leadership experience
- Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems
