Position Details:
MDA Space is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer at the MTS/Engineer level in the field of Systems Design and Radiation Effects & Analysis on our Robotics & Space Operations team at our Brampton office.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Electrical Engineering Department in a variety of tasks. As a member of the Electrical Engineering Team you will work in the Logistics & Sustaining Engineering (L&SE) program (to support On-Orbit Space Station activities), and/or the Gateway External Robotics System (GERS) program, and/or the planetary/lunar rovers’ programs, and/or R&D activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The interested candidates do not need to be experienced in all areas below but should demonstrate knowledge in the following areas:
Systems Engineering:
- Experienced with the design, development and verification of electrical systems from planning to execution
- Supporting business development pertaining to electrical system engineering designs and costing activities
- Broad exposure to electrical engineering including embedded mixed signal systems, power systems, motor control and electro-optical designs
- Capable of determining design alternatives and performing trade studies to choose a solution
- Understanding of environmental requirements including electromagnetic compatibility, radiation environments, thermal, and structural
- Ability to coordinate and negotiate with other engineering disciplines including software, mechanical and control systems
- Make recommendations for design, process improvements, and data collection.
- Establish requirements for component procurement specifications.
Radiation and Charging Effects & Analysis:
- In-depth understanding of Total Dose Effects (TID), Single Event Effects (SEE) and Displacement Damage Dose Effects (DDD)
- Understanding of how to use dose depth curves and its application to space hardware performance
- Understanding of calculating radiation performance of electronic parts and performing cross section analysis
- Understanding of radiation testing, test facilities and preparation of UUT for testing
- Awareness of radiation testing using heavy ions, protons or gamma radiation
- Experience working with radiation tools used for radiation effects analysis such as SPENVIS or FASTRAD
- Good understanding of spacecraft charging both surface and internal.
- Awareness of spacecraft charging tools such as EMA3d Charge, Nascap 2k and/or SPIS
- Develop design requirements for design, process improvements, and data collections.
- Good understanding of radiation hazards and effects on avionics.
What This Role Will Need:
- Strong analytical, problem solving, communication and organization skills
- 5 or more years of experience working in the radiation effects field.
- Support a cross-discipline team of design and system Engineers, while providing radiation test and analysis results.
- Support and consult on requirements flow down, modeling and analysis reports, and recommendations for mitigating radiation effects.
- Prepare and fully execute test plans and analysis for single event effects, total ionising dose, and displacement damage dose.
- Perform offsite testing to characterize parts and assemblies for their total ionising dose and single event effect (proton and Havier ions) impact.
- Comfortable with technical presentations to customers like CSA and NASA for design reviews
- Strong interpersonal skills, self-starter and dedication to meet project deadlines
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and a positive thinker
- Experience in developing radiation tests for avionics and other complex electronics.
- Experience in writing radiation hardness plan, procedures and presenting to customer.
Assets:
- Organized, self-starter, attention to detail.
- Experience with/Knowledge of MS Excel, MS Visio, VBA, NI LabVIEW
- Experience using Electrical CAD tools such as ORCAD, Altium, AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB and PSPICE Simulators
- Familiarity with working in Lunar Dust environments including performing analysis for dust impact, designing for lunar dust and testing space hardware in a lunar dust environment
- Good organizational and analytical skills would be very beneficial.
- Familiarity working with hardware design schematics, drawings, CCA boards, troubleshooting and solution-oriented approach.
- Strong mathematics and statistics skills.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering: Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, Systems or Engineering Physics/ Physics
- Strong oral, written and verbal communication skills
- Result orientated and exhibits excellent critical thinking
- Works well in a dynamic environment and to a specific set of requirements
- Team player that demonstrated high level of integrity
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The compensation range for this position is $78,000 - $130,000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
