About Us
Rabbit Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, produced over 200 million pounds of uranium concentrate from 1975 through 2016 and is currently in a safe state of care and maintenance. The uranium mined and milled at Rabbit Lake has been used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to energize a clean-air world.
The Role
Cameco is looking for a passionate professional to lead the safety and radiation functions and teams at the Rabbit Lake operation. You will champion the site safety program and initiatives with a focus on program conformance and safety performance improvement, and will ensure effective emergency response capabilities aligned with provincial and federal requirements. You will oversee the radiation protection program and activities to ensure the safety and protection of workers through application of ALARA and to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring programs comply with regulatory and internal requirements and will coordinate with other departments to guarantee timely reporting and response and implementation to regulatory inquiries or inspection results. The role will also seek performance improvements while identifying and pursuing opportunities to create efficiencies in delivery and operational activities.
In this role, you will:
- Provide leadership and direction to the safety and radiation teams and indirectly to other departments
- Communicate with regulatory agencies and representatives
- Collaborate with cross functional project and inter-operational teams
- Provide contractor management and oversight
- Oversee emergency response and fire protection programs and activities
- Coach and develop team members to improve overall performance and to achieve results
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related field
- Ten years of experience in SHEQ functional roles with five years in a supervisory capacity
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
- Familiarity with the Saskatchewan OHS, Mines Regulations and/or applicable radiation legislation
- Supervisory experience in areas of health, safety and/or radiation protection
- Emergency response/mine rescue experience and/or certification or willingness to obtain
- Work a flexible site-based schedule and commute to site by aircraft
Recommended:
- Relevant experience in the mining and/or nuclear industry
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional and/or Radiation Safety Officer Level 1 (RSO-1) certification
- Proficient in CamRad, CIRS, ISNet, Microsoft Office

schedule. Employees commute to the site by aircraft from designated locations in
Saskatchewan.
