Project Manager - Darlington New Nuclear SMR

AtkinsRéalis is supporting a nuclear new build small modular reactor (SMR), the first of its kind built in the western hemisphere, and due to be on the grid by the end of this decade. We are looking for a talented Project Manager with an engineering background and new build or nuclear refurbishment experience to join our growing team and to be part of this exciting project.
The Project Manager will report to the Project Director (for major contributor projects) or the General Manager and will be responsible for establishing, monitoring, and maintaining project governance and processes, developing best for project solutions to emergent issues, and facilitating integration of partner processes within an IPD environment. This role will require a strong understanding of project governance, organizational structures, and quality requirements in a large scale highly regulated environment. An ability to effectively and efficiently drive change and continuous improvement, while balancing the requirements of stakeholders with potentially competing priorities is essential.
A project manager is expected to have experience in the project lifecycle phases. Initially the position will require strength and leadership abilities related to initiation and planning with foresight to the impact these activities and established processes will have on execution, monitoring and controlling and eventually project closure and facility turnover. The role will have limited direct interface with project execution but will provide the guidance for those with direct project execution responsibilities to excel.

Your role within the team:
- Accountable for development of project governance and systems within an IPD environment, including but not limited to project management, project controls, procurement, change, quality, risk.
- Develop best for project solutions in a diverse partner IPD organization.
- Provide guidance and leadership to project execution and functional discipline members.
- Assemble project or scope/task specific team(s) Requires close coordination with functional managers from various functions (engineering, project controls, safety, quality etc.) and in most cases with other IPD partner companies.
- Strong and diverse ability in development of written governance and digital tools to support implementation and user comprehension.
- Responsible for ensuring governance and supporting processes facilitate requirements management, change control/management, continuous improvement, project monitoring and control, records, and any flow-down/up requirements within the IPD organization.
- Accountable for promoting a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and nuclear and industrial safety.
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance to necessary training.
- Development of methods to facilitate application and reporting of appropriate key performance indicators to monitor project health and performance.
- Ensure project activities are performed in accordance with corporate and IPD organization standards and expectations.
- Assist with development, develop, and implement detailed project execution plans and monitor their execution through comprehensive reporting and feedback.
- Form and maintain relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Ensure project processes and methods for formal approvals are prepared and approved in accordance with IPD organization, and as applicable, corporate, Level of Authority (LoA) procedures.
- For assigned direct/indirect reports, approval of hours of work (e.g., timesheet approvals, overtime approvals, vacation authorization) in accordance with company policies, project policies and any applicable collective agreements.
- Preparing and managing budgets and schedules with accountability for assigned scope/project performance.
- Responsible for regular formal reporting to organization members.
- Provides feedback and effective recommendations into functional performance review, hire/fire/discipline processes.
- Provide clear expectations and performance measures, meaningful feedback, and recognize and reward achievements.

The ideal candidate:
- 10+ years’ experience supporting various types of projects including engineering services and/or new build (e.g. nuclear, combined cycle) construction projects.
- 5+ years’ experience leading teams is required.
- Experience with both conventional plants and nuclear facilities is desirable.
- Experience on an IPD project or alternatively a JV environment.
- Deep understanding of the design, construction, and program management process on mega projects.
- Ability to manage both technical and other resources.
- Demonstrated ability to build a team and inspire them to perform and work together.
- Lead by example and set high standards for Health & Safety and Nuclear Safety Culture.
- Appreciation of the importance of Engineering and Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
- Excellent organizational, communication and customer relationship skills.
- Understanding of project delivery methodology and techniques. Including change management, earned value, scheduling, contract and subcontract management, requirements management, procurement and supply chain methods, construction work planning and inspection and test plans.
- Bachelor / Masters in Engineering, Business or equivalent is an asset.
- PRINCE2 and/or PMP certification or equivalent is an asset.
- P. Eng or PE certification is an asset.
- Various work locations in both the field and office. Including: Pickering, ON; Mississauga, ON; Oshawa, ON.
