McArthur River, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s largest high-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at McArthur River is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to energize a clean-air world.
The Role
Reporting to the mine superintendent, you will be part of a team responsible for underground mine development, freeze drilling, probe and grout drilling and exploration drilling.
You will have a proven history of leadership in providing safe and reliable execution of tasks, business focus, driving change through continual improvement, developing others, building relationships, and achieving results in a mining environment. Excellent communication, working with minimal direction within a multi-functional mining team, displaying initiative and striving to achieve results are essential skills.
In this role, you will:
- Ensure development and capital drill activities are carried out in a safe manner in compliance with regulations and Cameco’s policies and guidelines
- Ensure work is efficiently planned, scheduled, and coordinated to meet site priorities and objectives.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure integration of plans and work execution
- Ensure contractor staffing, equipment, consumable materials, and critical spares are maintained at the required levels to support site objectives
- Provide oversite and act as the site liaison between Cameco and the site’s development contractors.
- Provide daily direction and priority setting to the contractors as required
- Approve and track daily contractor hours and expenses. Assist in month end contractor cost verification
- Assist in compiling month end performance data and participate in performance reviews
- In consultation with the mine superintendent, identify, prioritize, and develop improvement objectives and strategies to support continuous improvement and operational excellence in Cameco’s four pillars of success (a safe, healthy, and rewarding workplace, a clean environment, supportive communities, and outstanding financial performance)
- Ensure procedures and work instructions are accurate, current, and effective
- Work with both the site training department and contractor to ensure training programs in your area of responsibility are effective and meeting operational requirements
Required:
- 12-years in underground mine operations or a technical degree and equivalent experience
- Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role
- Eligible for a Saskatchewan blasting certificate
- Ability to obtain a Saskatchewan supervisor’s certificate
- Strong understanding of mine safety and safety systems Work a 2-week rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft
Recommended:
- Experience at a uranium industrial site
- Lean Green Belt training
- SAP system familiarity
- Understanding or experience with operation reliability.
- Experience with mechanized mobile equipment and current on today’s technology
