McArthur River, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s largest high-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at McArthur River is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. The Role
The McArthur River radiation team is responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of employees at site by identifying radiation risks and mitigating those risks for successful production. As a key member of the radiation department, you will assist in ensuring compliance for the radiation protection program.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing radiation support to the operations, which includes:
- Collecting, maintaining and recording radiation data from the facilities
- Issuing radiation work permits
- Conducting routine monitoring and assessing working conditions pertaining to radiation protection for the safety of all workers
- Working as part of the entire safety, health, radiation, environment and quality (SHREQ) team and assisting others to ensure regular deadlines are met
- Responding in a timely and efficient manner to requests for assistance from other departments
- Managing power air purifying respirator (PAPR) cleaning and training personnel specific to site demands
- Providing advice to the operation related to radiation safety
- Assisting with any CIRS investigations and providing guidance for corrective actions on any radiation related incidents
Required:
- Radiation or environmental monitoring technician certificate or a post-secondary education in a science related field
- At least six months of work experience with radiation protection principles
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
- Work independently and as part of team with safety as a core value
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft
Recommended:
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft excel, and database applications
- Mining experience, specifically at a uranium mine site
- An aptitude and desire to become a member of the emergency response team
