Overview
As part of Candu International Engineering Services at Candu Energy, we are seeking a highly experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of a dynamic portfolio of international projects. Reporting to the Director, this role is integral to ensuring the successful execution of engineering services for our global CANDU fleet. The Project Manager will be accountable for all aspects of project delivery, including team leadership, performance tracking through KPIs, management of deliverables, organizational structure, budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor and supplier strategy, risk management, and forecasting through People Forecasting and Levelling (PFL). A key responsibility of this role is the day-to-day and career development of junior project team members, fostering individual growth while driving project and business success.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in project execution methodologies, with a solid foundation in engineering, procurement, construction, contract management, and project controls. As a core member of our expanding Engineering Services team, the Project Manager will play a critical role in shaping the trajectory of our international programs, ensuring effective governance, milestone achievement, stakeholder engagement, and accountability for project baselines and change management.
Your role
- Project Planning and Scope Definition: Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Define the project scope and deliverables in compliance with contract documents and client requirements.
- Team Leadership and Coordination: Assemble and lead a multidisciplinary project team (process, civil, mechanical, radiation physics, instrument control and electrical), ensuring effective communication and collaboration among engineers, CAD designers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- People Management: Maintain supervisory org. and mange career development of assigned project resources to the betterment of the individuals, the project and the business. Assemble a project team through recruiting, interviewing and/or selecting staff with appropriate skills and establishing training and development programs suitable for the work. This generally requires close coordination with functional managers from various functions (engineering, project controls, safety, quality etc.). Make effective decisions / recommendations on human resource issues, work closely with Labour Relations as required to effectively resolve work performance issues within the project.
- Contract and Risk Management: Manage all aspects of contract administration, including scope and change control, subcontractor and supplier management, and risk management. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and governance. Accountable for rigorous risk analysis in accordance with corporate standards and application of industry best practice including Montecarlo methodology and contingency draw-down curves.
- Safety and Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to safety standards and quality requirements. Develop and enforce safety programs, training, and corrective action plans to maintain high performance standards.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Apply key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor project health and performance. Establish rigorous reporting protocols to meet contract, corporate, and project-specific oversight requirements.
- Procurement and Supply Chain Management: Responsible for all contract management including scope & change control, requirements management, subcontractor and supplier management and governance for any flow-down requirements from the parent contract to subs and vendors.
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. Ensure effective communication and coordination to keep all parties informed and aligned with project goals. Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
- Ethical and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all project activities comply with corporate standards of ethical conduct, cyber-security, import-export regulations, intellectual property protections, and security clearance protocols.
- Nuclear Safety: Accountable for all aspects of nuclear and industrial safety including adherence with corporate and customer safety programs, development and enforcement of necessary training and requirements, adherence to corrective action programs and enforcement of performance standards for all of the above.
These responsibilities ensure that the project manager effectively leads the project from conception to completion, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the process.
About you
- Educational Background: BSc in Engineering or equivalent is required.
- Certifications: PMP certification is an asset.
- Nuclear Experience: Experience working in a nuclear environment is an asset.
- Project Experience: 5+ years of experience leading or supporting projects in construction, manufacturing, or engineering services.
- Nuclear Supply Chain: Understanding of nuclear supply chain and materials management principles.
- Quality Assurance: Appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications is considered an asset.
- Project Delivery: Understanding of project delivery methodology, including earned value, critical path scheduling, prime contract and subcontract management, procurement and supply chain methodology, and inspection and test plans.
- Team Building: Ability to build and inspire a team to work towards common goals.
- Leadership: Lead by example, setting high standards for Health & Safety and Nuclear Safety Culture.
- People Management: Experience managing direct reports within a project delivery functional support model.
- Communication Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and customer relationship skills. Demonstrated oral and written communication abilities.
- Safety Knowledge: Working knowledge of industrial safety and nuclear safety culture.
- Language Proficiency: Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English. Additional proficiency in Romanian, Chinese or Korean is an asset.
