This position is located at the Kinectrics offices in Toronto and/or Etobicoke, Ontario and is performed within Kinectrics’ PMO organization as Section Manager, Project Controls and Project Management. This section comprises of 7 staff.
Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
- Apply advanced expertise and experience in the corporate Project Controls processes.
- Support the vision of the PMO as a centre of excellence with strong Project Controls, project reporting and high visibility and predictability of projects.
- Lead implementation of Project Controls protocols across the organization, taking into account various project structures and business needs.
- Manage a team of scheduling professionals, project managers, client leads and Programmers.
- Ensure PM tools are efficient/easy to use and the data is updated regularly.
- Capable of operating with high degree of latitude and exercising independent judgement.
- Guide PMs, managers and executives as to which metrics will provide good insight/indication of project/portfolio/company performance.
- Interfaces with senior management, finance, accounting, technical lines and other professionals as needed.
- Support the Project Management team in project planning and execution.
- Use of Earned Value methods for forecasting for project costs to determine EAC (Estimate At Completion). Implement methods of effective progress measurement based on size and complexity of projects.
- Timely identification, notification, resolution, and recording of deviations from agreed / baseline plan (scope, man-hours, cost and schedule) including trending on items that have potential for future impact within project scope.
- Develop a project specific Risk Management Plan for incorporation into the Project Controls Plan.
- Establish frequency for risk reviews and lead risk review meetings to identify, evaluate and update risks that may have a cost and/or schedule impact.
- Establish quantitative risk analysis (QRA) review frequency; oversee QRA and articulate the results and variance analysis to project leadership.
- Provide analysis and complete estimates to corporate / senior management, project management, and client for action planning.
- Work with programming team to assess existing project management tools and propose solutions for automation of reports and tasks.
- Lead improvement initiatives for project management and controls processes across the company.
- Provide training to staff or at department level on project management tools, processes and applications.
- Perform other duties as required.
Performance and Leadership:
- Implements strategies in alignment with corporate initiatives and provides a clear sense of direction and focus for the Service Line.
- Guides various stakeholders in project metrics and leads planning team to implement corporate strategy.
- Facilitate internal relationships and effective use of resources.
- Responsible for staffing and resourcing decisions, including scheduling and assigning work.
- Performs managerial functions such as hiring, promotion, performance reviews, pay increases, staff development. and disciplinary actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Identify growth and development opportunities for team members.
- Lead the development of new and innovative project solutions and services to support customer needs beyond the scope of past practices or precedent.
- Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees.
Accountability Objective:
- Manage complex and unique relationships with all departments in the company to meet or exceed targets and meet annual plan objectives.
- Oversee a diverse portfolio of projects in order to provide oversight on project controls and project management practices and procedures, including projects in various business lines with different project plans/objectives.
- Lead and motivate team members, achieving effective utilization of resources.
- Support mentoring and development of employees.
- Work closely with other service lines across Kinectrics to maximize opportunities.
Customer Relationships and Orders:
- Build relationships with and influence current and potential customers for continued and new work.
- Provide direct support to plan complex projects from the outset and plan for efficient project reporting.
- Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Extensive knowledge of Earned Value Analysis, critical path, Primavera P6, Power BI, Proposal Management Process.
- Extensive SAP knowledge and experience.
- Excellent understanding of Kinectrics Quality Assurance requirements and applicable industry codes and standards.

Qualifications:
- Highly proficient in Primavera P6 scheduling software and Earned Value analysis.
- Experience with a variety of scheduling & reporting tools.
- Demonstrated leadership of developing project reporting systems.
- Knowledge and expertise of SAP, Sharepoint, Concur, Power BI, Toolbox is an asset.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree desirable (engineering / technical, project management, finance or business preferred).
- 10+ years' of relevant work and 2+ years of resource management experience.
- Experience in management and project controls, Utilities environment considered an asset.
- Understand the evolution of complex construction projects.
- PMP certification, knowledge of PMBOK or Project Management education an asset.
- Knowledge of software/applications development process is preferred.
- Ability to manage a high performing team and exceeding client expectations.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills as the role requires continuous interaction with team members and client.
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal, including report writing.
- Experience working in a consulting (high pressure) Engineering/Construction environment.
Occasional travel to other Kinectrics’ locations, client sites, and key industry events shall be required.
