Project Engineering Manager - Computers

The Technical Manager is a member of the Project Engineering Team on the Monark project, responsible leading a group of computer engineers and designers engaged in design activities such as specifications, procurement, verification and validation related to control and safety computer systems. The Technical Manager oversees the execution of design and technical activities in a project delivery environment in accordance with industry standards and established governance. The Technical Manager will report functionally to the Director, I&C on Monark.
This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.
Your role within the team:
- Managing the design process from concept to preliminary to detailed design.
- Planning and executing work consistent with quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Coordinating and oversight of computer design activities related to the completion of fundamental design for a nuclear power plant.
- Coordinating the design interface between the NSP and balance of plant (BOP) portions of a nuclear power plant.
- Working with assigned staff to find optimal solutions to project challenges.
- Providing technical guidance to staff, as appropriate.
- Ensuring that work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures, and in accordance with the contract, applicable specifications, and technical requirements. Interfacing with stakeholders, including Engineering peers, Modelling, Procurement, Construction representatives, and prospective equipment and/or system vendors, to ensure system designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements, and that the resulting designs are constructable, operable, and maintainable.
- Ensuring department deliverables are produced in accordance with budget, schedule, quality, and technical requirements.
- Approving engineering documents and deliverables.
- Removing barriers that could impact safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance.
- Participating in the preparation of commercial proposals and approving the technical content of proposals prepared under their direction.
- Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including required skills, capabilities, and durations.
- Working with marketing and other business groups to maintain and improve client relationships and offerings.

The ideal candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer or electrical engineering, or related field from an accredited University.
- Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario with good standing, or eligible within six (6) months of hire.
- 5 years nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience is an asset.
- 10 or more years of experience leading engineering teams.
- Experience managing engineering work with interfacing requirements involving other engineering teams (I&C, Process Control, Electrical, Safety, Licensing and Human Factors), Procurement, Quality Assurance, Contracts, and Construction.
- Experience working within a Quality Management System (CSA N286), and quality standards (CSA N299).
- Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA and IEC standards pertaining to Computer Engineering in production and safety critical applications.
- Experience with CANDU reactor DCC and Safety System Computers.
- Experience delivering an overall plant control system design of a power production facility.
- Commercial acumen, with experience in procurement, contracts, supply chain, and/or logistics.
- Experience and capability in regulatory communications in a regulated industry is an asset.
- Station operations and/or station maintenance experience in a plant controls faculty is an asset.
- Experience with cyber security for Operational Technology is an asset.
- Proven track record of performance in a multidiscipline, dynamic, project delivery environment.
- Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada is an asset.

- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- The Technical Manager will oversee the work of 10 to 20 computer engineering staff. Supervisory responsibilities include:

Willing to travel to and potentially work at sites to meet business needs, inclusive of project (construction) site and equipment / component suppliers. (Note: the main work location will be our Mississauga campus, based on a combination of project requirements and employee preference).
