Engineering Manager Modularization and Constructability

The Technical Manager is a member of the Project Management Team (PMT) on the CANDU MONARK Project, responsible for coordinating the implementation of the module program within engineering, inclusive of interfacing with all stakeholders. The Technical Manager will report functionally to the Technical Director.
Location – Mississauga, ON
Your role within the team:
- Contributing to the modularization strategy by sourcing large build best practices from various industries and identifying opportunities to reduce schedule and cost risks in building large nuclear plants.
- Coordinating the implementation of the modularization program within engineering by actively participating in the modularization planning process, inclusive of establishing Work Breakdown Structures, Engineering and Procurement Planning, Contracts Management, Materials Management Planning, Logistics Planning, and Modularization Execution Planning.
- Validating that modularization concepts can be accommodated while fully meeting project specifications, local codes and regulations, and applicable standards.
- Ensuring that modules are designed and optimized by defining the engineering work processes that fully support the modularization approach.
- Ensuring the sequence of engineering deliverables supports the modularization program.
- Interfacing with all stakeholders, including Engineering peers, Design / Modelling, Procurement, Construction representatives, and prospective Module Fabricators, to ensure modules are designed to be constructable, operable, maintainable, and safe for transport and installation.
- Removing barriers that could impact safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance.
- Maintaining a module tracking tool and reporting on progress.
Supervisory responsibilities:
The Technical Manager will oversee the work of 5 to 10 multidisciplinary engineering staff. Supervisory responsibilities include:

The ideal candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited University.
- Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, or eligible within six (6) months of hire.
- Experience managing engineering work with significant interfacing requirements with all engineering teams (Process / Systems, Mechanical, Civil / Structural, Electrical/I&C, and Process Control), Procurement, Quality Assurance, Contracts, and Construction.
- Experience working within a Nuclear Quality Management System (CSA N286), and quality standards (CSA N299).
- Working knowledge of/experience with the ASME III, CSA B51 standard, ASME B31.1 codes and other applicable standards or regulatory guides.
- Experience delivering a modularization program in a heavy industry project environment.
- Commercial acumen, with experience in procurement, contracts, supply chain, and/or logistics.
- Construction and /or fabrication experience is an asset.
- 5 years nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience is an asset.
- 5 or more years of experience leading teams.
- Proven track record of performance in a multidiscipline, dynamic, project delivery environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
Other aspects:
- Willing to travel to and potentially work at sites to meet business needs, inclusive of project (construction) site, pre-assembly / module fabrication yards, and equipment / component suppliers. (Note: the initial site location is at the Mississauga head office or the Pickering Parkway Office in Ontario)
