Cameco Fuel Manufacturing (CFM) is one of two suppliers serving Canada's reactor fleet and is the largest Canadian-based fabricator of in-core reactor components for CANDU reactors around the world. There is an immediate need for a Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist to join an innovative team that supports Cameco’s mission to provide clean energy solutions.
Position and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will become a member of the Cobourg QA team, reporting to the Cobourg QA Superintendent, providing our stake holders with objective evidence that the product requirements are met through effective quality planning, improvement, evaluation, and prevention, and assures the deployment of quality function in all aspects of the product manufacturing cycle through departmental assurance activities.
Performance Expectations
- Provide a means of communications directly with the customer to develop and supply a product which meets or exceeds the customer requirements.
- Assist the Quality Assurance Superintendent in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the quality management system and establishing a culture of continuous improvement by identifying new practices that will contribute to the overall effectiveness of the quality management system.
- Interpret customer orders, product specifications, drawings, and applicable codes and standards and translate them into detailed QA documents (Inspection and Test Plans, procedures, etc) to ensure the products will meet the specified requirements.
- Interface with the Engineering, Procurement, Production, and Marketing groups on matters related to the planning of QA activities required by the design and applicable codes and standards.
- Interface with internal staff, various suppliers, customer representatives and regulatory authorities on issues related to quality and compliance.
- Support internal, external, and vendor audits and customer oversight activities.
- Conduct root cause analysis and timely implementation of corrective/preventive action to respond to customer complaints, internal and supplier concerns, and present, as applicable, to CFM Senior Leadership and our customer.
- Manage supplier selection, document approvals, and assist with reports regarding suppliers’ performance.
- Conduct quality review of RFQ documentation and contracts.
- Maintain the liaison with the Customer’s Quality Assurance Representatives (QAR’s) and TSSA Authorized Nuclear Inspector (ANI).
- Review non-conforming items and review, recommend, and accept dispositions in accordance with contract requirements. Request ANI review and acceptance of dispositions before commencing repairs that involve welding of the pressure boundary.
- Schedule inspection and testing activities and inform the ANI and/or Customer's Quality Surveillance Representative (QSR) as defined in the Inspection and Test Plan.
- Prepare/initiate Certificate of Compliance, Certified Material Test Reports, History Docket/Files as appropriate, for customer/ANI review and approval.
- Identify, develop, and qualify inspection equipment.
Education and Qualifications
Requirements of the position:
- Preferably a graduate of a four-year engineering program from a recognized University or at a minimum, a graduate of a three-year technology program at the College level.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a Quality Assurance Specialist/Engineering or equivalent role.
- Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with all internal organization departments, customers, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment.
- Experience and/or background in auditing practices.
Assets:
- Certified auditor (Internal or Lead)
- Previous experience with History Docket/File creation.
- Understanding and previous working experience with the following codes and standards:
- ASME Section III, Div. 1 and Div. 2
- ASME Section II, Part A, B and C
- ASME Section V
- ASME Section VIII Div. 1
- ASME Section IX
- CSA N285.0, CSA B51, and CSA N299
